raw thoughts.
after watching buzzfeed unsolved's video on van gogh's death a few years ago, i randomly remembered it and added this to my watchlist. i took it out after a few weeks as i grew tired of seeing it repeatedly confront me with the fact that it was still unwatched, but decided to randomly watch it today for no apparent reason.
with philosophical conversations of what makes something truly human arising with the rise of ai, watching a film that was not only dedicated to a heartfelt artist such as vincent van gogh, but technically showcased what it means to create art through human eyes and perspectives felt incredibly timely. with each stroke that appeared and moved through each frame i saw in the movie, i was able to feel the compassion the creators felt for the artist and his life. it was such a perfect example of humans being human-- connecting, comforting, cherishing, understanding, and ultimately loving. what are humans if we don't feel what we feel and love what we love? loving vincent showed me again what makes humans uniquely human.
Favorite Scene
Vincent: Who am I in the eyes of most people? A nobody, a non entity, an unpleasant person. Someone who has not, and never will have any position in society. In short, the lowest of the low. Well then even if that were all absolutely true, then one day I will have to show by my work what this nobody, this non entity has in his heart.
